Controller

The Controller oversees all aspects of financial reporting for DAC Group including the issuance of credit to customers, customer invoicing, collections and accounts payable.  The Controller ensures that the accounting department meets the highest standards for quality, accuracy, timeliness and control. The successful incumbent will be reporting to the CFO and have approximately 3 senior financial direct reports and oversight of a team of 12.

Responsibilities

Financial Results and Reporting

  • Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of financial results for DAC Group and operating companies (approximately 20 operating entities and holding companies in North America and Europe)
  • Responsible for coordination and execution of effective and efficient year-end audit and review engagements with external accountants; including coordination of interim review activities
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Provide status of financial condition of companies by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data

Invoicing, Accounts Receivable, Credit, Collections

  • Ensure the proper administration of credit with all customers
  • Ensure invoices are timely and accurate as well that receivables are collected in a timely and efficient manner

Accounts Payable

  • Ensure trade payables are efficiently and effectively administered and paid

Payroll

  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll for the global operation

Financial Systems and Operational Efficiencies

  • Review and evaluate accounting team structure and systems to support operational and business needs to meet company objectives
  • Ensure new ventures and acquisitions are set up and recorded in operating results in a timely and effective manner
  • Understand and work with key Finance/Accounting systems – MS Dynamics Great Plains, Adaptive Planning, PSA, ITG
  • Review, recommend and update systems and processes to ensure efficient and effective delivery of accounting services

Short and Long Term Planning

  • Working with CFO other Finance Managers to coordinate monthly and annual financial reports and budget management functions
  • Assist with both short and longer term planning and forecasting of company results including P+L and Balance Sheet forecasts

Stewardship, Taxes, Compliance

  • Protect corporate assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing appropriate internal controls over financial assets
  • Assist in calculations, recording, coordination and maintenance of shareholder records and share transactions
  • Coordinate necessary calculations, support and documentation for equity based management bonuses and distribution payments
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and submission of appropriate corporate tax returns and related filings (working with external tax advisors)
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal and other regulatory requirements

Sales Commissions and Incentive Models

  • Compile sales incentive compensation models for new business/sales personnel based on review and discussions with CEO/CFO/VPs

HR and Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations of the accounting department and payroll
  • Responsible for assigning work, setting objectives and evaluating performance
  • Promote effective teamwork, feedback and guidance to direct and indirect finance reports for continuous learning and development
  • Manage accounting staff by recruiting, orienting, training and coaching employees
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional groups and events

Other

  • Complete/execute other special projects that may arise from time to time as requested by the CEO/CFO

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive work experience in Finance/Accounting
  • 3+ years of direct managerial/leadership experience
  • Experience in an advertising agency environment is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of US/Canadian GAAP and best practices is strongly preferred
  • Post-secondary degree in Business specializing in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent field
  • Professional Accounting Designation (i.e. CA, CMA, CGA, CPA, etc.) is required
  • Experience working with mid-size companies (with 250+ staff) with multiple locations, multiple entities is preferred, but not essential
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in an environment of shifting priorities
  • Superior oral and business writing skills, and a proven track record of discretion in dealing with confidential matters
  • Proven success in developing and maintaining positive team spirit, and a collaborative, consultative working style
